President Mohamud receives referee Omar Artan, Africa’s best referee 2025
Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud welcomed Referee Omar Artan after he was named Africa’s Best Referee 2025 by CAF on November 20, 2025, marking a historic first for Somali football.
Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Sunday hosted Referee Omar Abdulqaadir Artan at the Presidential Palace in the capital Mogadishu following his recognition as Africa’s Best Referee for 2025, an award conferred by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
During the reception, President Mohamud congratulated Referee Artan on his achievement, noting that the award reflects his dedication and professional accomplishments. He encouraged Cartan to continue representing Somalia in international football.
Referee Artan thanked the President for the reception and recognition, stating that the award motivates him to continue his work in representing Somalia in international football arenas.
The award by CAF recognizes Artan’s performance and contribution to football across Africa. Artan, who has been a referee for over a decade, was formally awarded by CAF on November 20, 2025, becoming the first Somali referee to receive this honor.
