Somalia’s information minister meets EU ambassador to strengthen media, culture, and tourism cooperation
Somalia’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Daud Aweys Jama, met with EU Ambassador Francesca Di Mauro to strengthen cooperation in media, culture, and tourism. The discussion focused on public awareness campaigns, youth engagement, press freedom, and countering misinformation and extremism. Both sides emphasized the importance of unified messaging and highlighted the EU’s continued support in Somalia’s recovery and development efforts.
The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, Daud Aweys Jama, today held a productive meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, at the EU embassy in Mogadishu. The discussion focused on enhancing cooperation in media, public awareness campaigns, culture, and tourism.
During the meeting, Minister Daud Aweys thanked the European Union for its significant role in Somalia’s recovery and development, particularly programs supporting media, culture, youth creativity, combating irregular migration, and countering misinformation and extremism.
Both sides emphasized strengthening collaboration in public awareness initiatives related to security, elections, stabilization, and countering violent extremism. They agreed on the importance of empowering media outlets to deliver unified and effective messaging to the Somali public.
Ambassador Francesca Di Mauro underscored the value of reinforcing bilateral cooperation in media, culture, and tourism, noting that the EU remains one of Somalia’s strongest partners in reconstruction and recovery efforts.
Minister Daud Aweys reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to expanding EU collaboration, highlighting programs aimed at developing journalists’ skills, protecting press freedom, promoting Somali culture, and encouraging youth engagement. He also emphasized the potential of tourism development to contribute positively to the country’s social and economic growth.
The meeting reflects Somalia’s ongoing efforts to deepen partnerships with international organizations, ensuring that media, culture, and tourism sectors play a central role in national development and public engagement.
