Prime Minister Barre appoints new minister of Labour and Social Affairs*
The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, has issued a decree relieving the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Yusuf Mohamed Aden, of his duties.
In the same decree, the Prime Minister appointed Prof. Saalim Ali Ibrow as the new Minister of Labour and Social Affairs to lead the ministry and accelerate the government’s employment and social development programs.
“After reviewing the broad responsibilities and important mandate of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the Prime Minister has appointed Prof. Saalim Aliyow Ibrow as Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia,” the statement from the Office of the Prime Minister read.
The dismissal of the former minister comes just days after he announced that the ministry had created jobs for more than 2,000 citizens this year and planned to create an additional 40,000 jobs in the coming year. The official reason for his removal, however, has not been disclosed.
Sources close to the Prime Minister’s Office indicated that the reshuffle is part of broader efforts to strengthen government efficiency and accelerate ongoing labour market reforms aimed at expanding employment opportunities and improving social welfare services.
Prof. Saalim Ali Ibrow, the newly appointed Minister, is a seasoned public servant with extensive experience in governance, education, and community development, having previously held several senior government positions.
