Israel confirms missile strikes on Iran as regional tensions escalate.
Israel has said it carried out a missile strike against Iran, while a U.S. official told Al Jazeera that the United States participated in the airstrikes.
According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, several missiles hit areas around University Street and the Jomhouri district in Tehran. The Associated Press also reported that strikes landed near offices linked to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, said Israel had launched a preemptive attack on Iran to eliminate threats facing the Israeli state.
Air raid sirens were heard across Israel, with residents instructed to move to shelters in anticipation of possible retaliatory attacks from Iran.
Meanwhile, staff at the U.S. Embassy in Qatar were relocated to secure locations. U.S. citizens were also advised to seek shelter until further notice, amid rising regional tensions.
