The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) for Somalia, Nicholas Kay, has expressed his deep concern over the recent events in Dhusamareb, Galgadud Region.
Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a (ASWJ) militia overran Dhusamareb town and took control over from government forces.
He urged Ahlu Suna militants to withdraw from the city and give dialogue a chance for peace.
“I urge the ASWJ forces to disengage and withdraw to earlier positions. All Differences should be resolved through peaceful dialogue and compromise,†He said.
Ambassador Kay called upon all parties to respect the Guriciel ceasefire on March and refrain from further violence.
“All parties must respect the ceasefire agreement signed in Guricel on 5 March 2015, refrain from violent actions and make immediate efforts to de-escalate the situation. The Adaado state formation conference is crucial for strengthening peace in the Central Regions and Somalia,The progress made to date should be preserved and built upon.†He said.
SRSG added that the United Nations is committed to working with the Somali people to Support the nation’s peace and state-building process.
