UK Ambassador commends Mogadishu’s security progress and pledges continued support
Mayor Muungaab meets UK Ambassador Charles King to strengthen Mogadishu’s city planning, sanitation, and drainage projects.
The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), on Tuesday held a meeting with the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Charles Nicholas King, to discuss cooperation on city development and governance initiatives.
The discussions focused on enhancing staff capacity, equipping the City Planning and Engineering departments, supporting sanitation campaigns, and rehabilitating drainage systems and stormwater channels in Mogadishu, with significant contributions from the UK government and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
The upcoming Local Council elections scheduled for 25 December were also discussed, with Mayor Muungaab confirming that Banadir administration and security agencies are fully prepared to ensure a safe and transparent voting process.
Ambassador King commended the progress in Mogadishu’s security and reiterated the UK government’s commitment to supporting the capital’s reconstruction and development.
During the meeting, Mayor Muungaab signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the SINAN project, which aims to strengthen the capacity of City Planning staff and equip Banadir administration offices. The project is funded by the UK government and implemented by DT Global.
