The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the Alshabaab attack that took place in the Hiran region, central Somalia, which resulted in the deaths of numerous people.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) affirmed that the UAE expresses its strong condemnation of these criminal acts and its permanent rejection of all forms of violence, extremism and terrorism aimed at undermining security and stability and in contravention of human values and principles.
”The Ministry expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims of this heinous crime.” the ministry said in a statement.
One person was killed and at least six others injured in a suicide car bombing at a checkpoint manned by Somali government troops in the central region of Hiran on Saturday, witnesses said, part of a twin suicide car attack.
Al Shabaab has been waging an insurgency against Somalia’s government since 2007, with the aim of enforcing its strict interpretation of Islamic law.
It has been pushed back by government offensives in the past, only to regroup and return to areas that the army does not have the capacity to hold.
