The administration of the Banaadir Region and the Mogadishu Municipal Government has welcomed the historic decision by the Federal Parliament of Somalia to approve the Provisional Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia after a lengthy review and completion process.
In a statement, the Banaadir administration congratulated residents of Mogadishu, noting that the newly approved constitutional provisions clearly define the administrative status and political representation of the capital—an issue that the people of Mogadishu had sought clarity on for many years.
Officials described the parliamentary decision as a major milestone in Somalia’s state-building process, expressing hope that the move will pave the way for further national achievements through collective political efforts.
The administration also extended appreciation to the leadership of both houses of parliament and the lawmakers who supported the constitutional approval. In addition, it commended national leaders, particularly President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, for what it described as their determination, sincerity, and commitment to completing the long-standing constitutional review process.
Furthermore, the Banaadir administration praised Somali citizens who welcomed the development, stating that the positive public reaction reflects a strong desire among the population to move the country forward and overcome the political challenges that have persisted for years.
Authorities emphasized that the constitutional approval represents an important step toward strengthening governance, enhancing political representation, and advancing Somalia’s broader state-building agenda.
