Jubbaland Ministers Inspect Key Afmadow-Buulo Gaduud Road Project
KISMAYO, – In a significant move to oversee regional development, a high-level delegation from the Jubbaland State Council of Ministers, accompanied by military officials and other senior authorities, conducted an inspection tour of the ongoing construction of the vital Afmadow–Buulo Gaduud road.
The delegation visited the area of Janaay Abdulle, a key site where construction efforts are currently concentrated.
The inspection was led by a contingent of Jubbaland Ministers. They were joined by senior military officers and other government officials, underscoring the project's strategic importance to both the civilian administration and security apparatus of the state.
The central focus of the tour was the active construction of the Afmadow to Buulo Gaduud road. This infrastructure project is a collaborative effort, jointly funded by the Jubbaland State Government and contributions from the local community. Officials confirmed that approximately 30 kilometers of the road have already been completed. Furthermore, there are concrete plans to surface the road with asphalt in the near future, a significant upgrade that would dramatically improve its quality and durability.
The project is located in the Lower Juba region, specifically connecting the towns of Afmadow and Buulo Gaduud. The ministerial delegation visited the Janaay Abdulle area to assess the progress on this critical stretch of the roadway.
The inspection took place recently, highlighting the current, high-priority status of the road project. The ongoing construction indicates that work is progressing actively on the ground.
During the tour, officials elaborated on the multifaceted strategic value of the new road. They identified four key benefits:
- Enhanced Regional Connectivity: The road will directly link communities that have historically suffered from poor transport links, fostering greater social and economic interaction.
- Economic Growth and Trade: By facilitating the easier and faster movement of goods and people, the road is expected to be a catalyst for commerce, opening up new markets for local producers.
- Improved Public Mobility: The project aims to alleviate the transportation challenges faced by residents, making travel between the towns safer and more efficient.
- Security Reinforcement: A reliable road network is crucial for the rapid deployment of security forces, thereby strengthening stability and governance in the region.
The project is being executed as a partnership between the Jubbaland government and the local populace. The completion of the initial 30-kilometer section demonstrates tangible progress. The confirmed plan for future asphalting indicates a long-term commitment to building high-standard, permanent infrastructure.
While in the Janaay Abdulle area, the ministerial delegation also took the opportunity to inspect other developmental initiatives underway, signaling a broader push for progress in the region beyond a single infrastructure project.
The inspection of the Afmadow-Buulo Gaduud road by top Jubbaland officials serves as a powerful statement of the state's commitment to regional development. This project is more than just a roadway; it is envisioned as a vital artery for connectivity, commerce, and security. Its successful completion, particularly with the planned asphalt surface, promises to be a transformative achievement for the communities of Lower Juba, fostering a new era of integration and economic opportunity.
