Hirshabelle President Meets UN Deputy Special Envoy to Discuss Humanitarian Response
The President of Hirshabelle State, Ali Abdulahi Hussein (Ali Guudlaawe), on Monday held a meeting with the Deputy Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General and UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia.
The meeting focused on the growing humanitarian challenges in Hirshabelle**, including the effects of **droughts, floods, and displacement, as well as ongoing development and relief projects being carried out by the United Nations in the state’s districts.
President Guudlaawe thanked the UN for its continuous support and emphasized the need to strengthen collaboration to ensure aid reaches the most vulnerable communities.
“Partnership between Hirshabelle and the United Nations is crucial in mitigating the impact of disasters and helping those in need,” he said.
The UN Deputy Special Envoy commended the Hirshabelle administration’s efforts to improve social services and emergency response, noting that coordination between local authorities and international partners is key to delivering aid effectively.
After their meeting, both officials joined the Somalia Humanitarian Forum in Jowhar. The forum brought together government officials, UN agencies, and humanitarian organizations to **coordinate relief efforts and streamline aid delivery across Somalia.
Hirshabelle has been hit hard by consecutive droughts and floods, leaving many families in urgent need of food, water, and shelter. Humanitarian actors continue to step up, but the challenges remain significant.
