President Hassan Sheikh Urges Youth to Take Part in Upcoming Elections Like They Did in the Banadir Cup
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called on Somali youth to participate actively in the upcoming direct local elections with the same enthusiasm they showed during the Banadir Districts Cup football tournament.
Speaking at Stadium Mogadishu during the final match between Howlwadaag and War-Sheikh districts, the President said the turnout of tens of thousands of spectators reflected the peace and security now enjoyed in the capital. He praised the tournament for promoting social cohesion and unity among Somali communities through sports.
President Hassan congratulated the two finalist districts and commended the organizers for successfully achieving the goals of inclusion and public engagement.
He urged young people to take ownership of their democratic rights, saying: “Just as you came out in large numbers to support your teams, come out to vote in the upcoming local elections and choose leaders who represent your interests and your communities.”
The President also congratulated the Howlwadaag team for winning the Banadir Cup and lauded all players, coaches, and supporters for their discipline, sportsmanship, and contribution to peacebuilding through sports.
