Peace Museum Committee in Djibouti Honours Somali Prime Minister
The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, Daud Aweis Jama, on Wednesday presented a special gift to Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on behalf of the Committee for the Construction and Equipment of the Somalia Peace Museum in Arta, Djibouti, a project in which the Ministry of Information played a leading role.
During the handover ceremony, Minister Daud Aweis briefed the Prime Minister on the stages the Peace Museum has gone through, from its inception to completion.
He noted that the museum was officially inaugurated on October 30 in the city of Arta, Djibouti, in a ceremony attended by the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and the President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh.
The Minister highlighted the central role the Ministry of Information played in planning, organizing, and equipping the Peace Museum, which he described as a symbol of Somalia’s resilience, history, and enduring pursuit of peace.
He commended the close collaboration between the Somali and Djiboutian governments in making the project a reality.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre praised the successful establishment of the Carta Peace Museum, noting that its vision stemmed from his earlier visit to Carta, where the idea of commemorating peace and unity first took shape.
He lauded the dedication and leadership of the Ministry of Information in bringing the initiative to fruition.
“The Peace Museum is more than a building, it is a national symbol of reconciliation, remembrance, and hope for the Somali people,” the Prime Minister said, underscoring the importance of preserving the nation’s cultural and historical heritage.
In conclusion, Minister Daud Aweis formally handed over the special gift to the Prime Minister, which had been sent by the Museum Construction and Equipment Committee led by Djibouti’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, H Younis Ali Guedi.
The gesture reflected the continued spirit of cooperation and brotherhood between Somalia and Djibouti in promoting peace and cultural development across the Horn of Africa.
