New Somali Envoy to Ukraine Vows to Bolster Cooperation and Friendship Between Mogadishu and Kyiv
The newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Ukraine, Mohamed Abdullahi Ahmed, officially presented his credentials to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a formal ceremony held in Kyiv.
The event marked a significant milestone in the growing diplomatic relationship between Somalia and Ukraine, as both countries reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in key sectors of mutual interest.
President Zelenskyy received the Somali ambassador with high regard and commended Somalia for its efforts to broaden its international partnerships.
He expressed his government’s willingness to work closely with Mogadishu in advancing political, economic, and humanitarian cooperation, emphasizing the shared values of friendship, resilience, and mutual respect that define the relations between the two nations.
Ambassador Ahmed, on his part, conveyed the greetings and goodwill message of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to the Ukrainian leader and the people of Ukraine.
He reiterated Somalia’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties and exploring avenues of collaboration in areas such as trade, education, technology, and food security.
The ambassador also highlighted Somalia’s desire to learn from Ukraine’s experience in innovation and sustainable development.
Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening diplomatic engagement and exploring new frameworks for cooperation between the two governments.
Ambassador Ahmed underlined Somalia’s readiness to participate in joint initiatives that promote peace, economic growth, and people-to-people exchanges, while reaffirming the Federal Government’s dedication to maintaining strong international partnerships grounded in respect and shared values.
President Zelenskyy acknowledged Somalia’s continued progress in state-building, governance, and security, and assured that Ukraine stands ready to support Somalia’s development and reform agenda through enhanced cooperation and technical exchange.
He also welcomed Somalia’s gesture of solidarity with the Ukrainian people amid the ongoing challenges facing the region.
The ceremony concluded with both sides reaffirming their mutual commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations and building a future of partnership and cooperation.
