The Special Envoy of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia for Stabilization and Civilian Protection, MP Omar Hashi, held a high-level meeting today in Mogadishu with Ambassador El-Hadji Ibrahima Diene, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission and Head of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
The discussions centered on the status of stabilization efforts in areas recently liberated from Al-Shabaab, the ongoing progress of the National Civilian Protection Framework, and the broader goal of promoting sustainable peace and recovery across Somalia.
According to officials, the framework, currently in its final stages, aims to establish a coordinated national mechanism for protecting civilians in conflict zones and supporting post-conflict stabilization initiatives.
MP Omar Hashi briefed Ambassador Diene on the Somali government’s recent advances in restoring governance, improving service delivery, and ensuring that communities in newly recovered areas receive humanitarian assistance and development support.
He emphasized that stabilization is a national priority directly linked to the country’s long-term security and state-building agenda.
Ambassador Diene commended the Somali government for its continued leadership in driving local stabilization efforts and reaffirmed AUSSOM’s commitment to aligning its support with Somalia’s national priorities.
He noted that AUSSOM will continue to provide technical and logistical support to the Federal Government in implementing civilian protection strategies and rebuilding critical local institutions in liberated regions.
Both sides acknowledged the importance of strong coordination between the Federal Government, regional authorities, and international partners to ensure that stabilization efforts lead to durable peace.
The meeting also addressed the need to enhance local capacity, promote social cohesion, and strengthen mechanisms that prevent the recurrence of conflict and protect vulnerable populations, especially women and children.
The talks concluded with a mutual commitment to deepen cooperation between Somalia and AUSSOM in promoting peace, security, and development, while ensuring that civilian protection remains at the heart of all stabilization operations.
Officials noted that the meeting comes at a crucial time when Somalia is transitioning toward greater national responsibility for its security, with the African Union gradually shifting its role toward long-term support for peacebuilding and institution strengthening.
