Ambassador Abdikhakin Calls for Continued Cooperation to Aid Somali Refugees in Yemen
Somalia’s Ambassador to Yemen, Abdikhakin Haji Mohamed, has highlighted the longstanding friendship and deep bilateral relations between Somalia and Yemen, underscoring collaboration in trade, security, and diplomatic affairs.
Speaking during a weekly program on Yemen’s national media, Ambassador Abdikhakin emphasized the importance of sustaining and strengthening ties that benefit both countries and their citizens.
The Ambassador also addressed the situation of Somali refugees residing in Yemen, noting that their overall conditions are stable but acknowledging that challenges remain. He revealed that during his recent visits to refugee camps, he engaged directly with Somali community leaders, listened to their concerns, and assessed the living conditions to identify areas where support is needed. The visits allowed the Ambassador to gain firsthand insight into the daily struggles faced by the refugee community and to advocate for solutions with local authorities.
Ambassador Abdikhakin stated that the Yemeni government has committed to addressing the complaints and needs of Somali refugees.
He noted that discussions with key officials, including the Minister of Interior, focused on improving access to essential services, ensuring security, and promoting the welfare of the Somali community.
The Ambassador emphasized Somalia’s continued commitment to supporting its citizens abroad while fostering strong diplomatic engagement with Yemen. He called for continued cooperation between the two nations to ensure that Somali refugees are protected, their concerns addressed, and opportunities provided for them to live with dignity.
He also encouraged Somali nationals in Yemen to work closely with diplomatic missions and local authorities to overcome challenges and contribute positively to the communities where they reside.
