Galgaduud Court of Appeal reopens case on killing of mother and three daughters
The Galgaduud Regional Appeal Court has announced the reopening of the murder case of Safiya Daahir Wehliye and her three daughters, who were brutally killed in the Qayib area last month. The incident drew nationwide condemnation and calls for swift justice.
In a statement issued on October 29, 2025, the court confirmed that a fresh hearing will be held for the three suspects Abdi Osmaan Abdullahi, Ayuub Mahamed Abdi and Ali Adan Hussein, who were previously convicted by a lower court. The decision follows an official complaint over alleged irregularities in the initial trial, with demands for a fairer review of evidence and witness accounts.
The court said the new session is set to begin on November 5, 2025, in Dhusamareb, where all concerned parties including defense lawyers, prosecutors and security officials have been summoned to appear.
According to the Appeal Court, the move seeks to ensure transparency and uphold justice for the victims, stressing that the judiciary remains committed to fairness and accountability.
The decision has sparked wide public reaction, with many Somalis welcoming the court’s action as a crucial step toward delivering justice. Civil society groups and human rights advocates have urged the judiciary to handle the retrial diligently, saying the case will test public trust in Somalia’s justice system.
