Local forces kill senior Al-Shabaab commander in ambush in Middle Shabelle
Locally mobilized forces in Middle Shabelle region have carried out a successful ambush against al-Shabaab militants, killing a senior commander and several of his bodyguards in an operation near Mahaday district.
According to security officials, the targeted attack took place in the areas of Ciid Ciidka and Jeembilow, on the outskirts of Mahaday, where the slain commander, identified as Muhudiin Hassan had long operated. Muhudiin was reportedly responsible for multiple attacks and acts of intimidation against residents in the region.
During the operation, the community forces recovered two AK-47 rifles and other military equipment from the slain militants.
The officials leading the mission praised the bravery of the fighters, saying the ambush was part of ongoing efforts to clear al-Shabaab remnants from parts of Middle Shabelle.
They further vowed to intensify such operations until all territories under the group’s control are liberated, reaffirming their commitment to securing local communities and restoring peace and stability in the region. Somalia has in recent months intensified military operations against al-Shabaab across several regions, aiming to weaken the group’s strongholds and restore full government control.
