Somalia’s Ports Minister holds consultative meetings in Waajid to promote one-person-one-vote elections
Bakool-The Minister of Ports and Marine Transport, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur (Jama), has kicked off a series of consultative and public awareness meetings in Waajid District, Bakool
region, aimed at promoting civic participation ahead of the country’s planned one-person-one-vote elections.
The Minister met with members of the Waajid District Council, traditional elders, and youth groups, engaging them in discussions on how to ensure a fair, transparent, and inclusive electoral process.
Participants shared views on strengthening community participation and building trust in the election system.
Minister Jama said the one-person-one-vote initiative is a key milestone tone in Somalia’s democratic transformation and a move towards greater accountability and citizen empowerment
He urged residents of South West State to play an active role in shaping the political future of the nation.
The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting democratic reforms through civic education, consultations, and cooperation with regional administrations to ensure every Somali citizen has a voice in the country’s governance.
