Saudi Arabia Rejects Israel’s Somaliland Move, Backs Somalia Unity
In Summary

Saudi Arabia has rejected Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, reaffirming full support for Somalia’s sovereignty and unity and warning that parallel entities threaten regional stability in the Horn of Africa.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its full support for the sovereignty, unity, and security of the Federal Republic of Somalia, firmly rejecting Israel’s recent decision to recognize the Somaliland region.

In an official statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs described Israel’s move as a unilateral action that violates international law, stressing that it directly contradicts the principles of state sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Ministry made clear that Saudi Arabia opposes any attempt to establish or legitimize a political entity parallel to the Somali state, warning that such efforts undermine Somalia’s national unity and threaten regional stability.

Saudi Arabia emphasized that Somaliland remains an integral part of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and that no external party has the legal authority to alter Somalia’s internationally recognized borders.

The statement reaffirmed Riyadh’s continued support for Somalia’s legitimate federal institutions, underscoring the Kingdom’s commitment to Somalia’s stability, security, and political cohesion.

Saudi Arabia noted that safeguarding Somalia’s unity is essential not only for the Somali people but also for maintaining peace and security across the Horn of Africa and the wider Red Sea region.

The Ministry stressed that the Kingdom remains firmly opposed to any actions that could endanger regional stability or disrupt Somalia’s international relations. It reiterated Saudi Arabia’s long-standing policy of supporting peaceful, lawful solutions that respect international norms and the sovereignty of states.

Saudi Arabia’s statement adds to a growing regional and international consensus rejecting recognition of Somaliland outside Somalia’s federal framework. By reaffirming its support for Mogadishu, Riyadh has reinforced Somalia’s diplomatic position and sent a clear message that unilateral actions threatening national unity will not gain legitimacy.
