Somaliland National Electoral Commission members who are on a working visit in Taiwan, held a meeting with their Taiwanese counterpart in the capital Taipei.
The meeting on Thursday centred on critical agendas pivotal to both sides.
The committees exchanged and shared views on technical management related to their work.
They highlighted the significance of cooperation between the two sides in a bid to enhance the conduct and convening of credible elections as Taiwan prepares for the holding of legislative and Presidential elections.
According to a statement from the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Taiwan, the six member electoral Commission led by their chairperson Musa Hassan Yousuf who are on a week-long visit to the country on the east of Asia, are scheduled to engage meetings with top government and electoral officials and civic groups to get a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s electoral system, election operations, and citizens’ political participation.
The Ministry added that the delegation will also attend a banquet hosted by Foreign Deputy Minister Remus Li-Kuo Chen.
Since establishing mutual agreement of cooperation in 2020, the two self- declared autonomous States have been bolstering multi-faceted cooperation with top officials from both sides heightening engagement in a bid to advance ties.
The 8th direct presidential election in Taiwan is scheduled to be held on 13 January 2024 while the breakaway region of Somaliland is gearing up for delayed Presidential elections slated for November 2024.
