The federal government of Somalia will submit maritime dispute with neighboring Kenya to International Court of Justice next week.
The decision was reached after meeting between the cabinet, experts and international lawyers tasked by the Somali government on Tuesday.
The move comes just after Kenyan foreign minister Amina Mohamed told the national assembly in her country that Somalia has agreed to solve the case in an out of court settlement.
Somali information minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir has said that his country is confident that they will win the case adding that the disputed area belongs to Somalia.
The two neighboring countries are already disputed over Kenya’s proposed security wall along the border aimed at containing increased Al Shabaab attacks inside Kenya since sent troops to southern Somalia in October 2011.
Somalia new ambassador to Kenya Jamal Mohamed Osman who also met Kenyan foreign minister Amina Mohamed in her Nairobi office on Tuesday on a courtesy call will submit his credentials to President Uhuru Kenyatta later.
Despite diplomatic hiccups here and there Kenya and Somalia enjoy historic political and economic ties rejuvenated by the fight against armed group Al Shabaab.
