Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, represented the country at the 46th Ordinary Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Council of Ministers, held in Arusha, Tanzania.
This important meeting reportedly focused on regional issues, including trade, infrastructure development, free movement of goods and people, peace, and security.
The leaders voiced cooperation indicating that the discussions are vital for strengthening integration and fostering cooperation among the member states of the East African Community.
The EAC Council of Ministers meeting sets the stage for the 24th Ordinary EAC Heads of State Summit and a high-level event marking the 25th anniversary of the East African Community.
Fiqi indicated that the country’s active participation underscores its commitment to regional integration and its aspiration to formally align with the EAC’s vision of a united and prosperous East Africa.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia is expected to attend the Heads of State Summit, reaffirming Somalia’s alignment with the shared goals of the East African region.
Somalia officially joined the East African Community in late 2023, becoming the eighth member of the regional organization. It is now an active participant in the EAC.
