Alshabab fighters have on late Monday night attacked a central jail in Baladweyn town the headquarters of Hiran region in central Somalia. Radio Dalsan spoke to a military officer in Baladweyn town, and said that the Somali government soldiers have foiled the attack.
“It was about 1:30am when Alshabab fighters raided the jail, but we have been already fully prepared and alert, and we have succeeded in thwarting their cowardly raid†said the military officer.
On top of that the officer added that they killed some of the attackers and when they were overpowered they fled the area and are now tracking down. The officer has escaped to answer if there were casualties on their side.
In last couple of days there were joint military operations carried by the AU troops and the Somali government troops in Hiraan region, it was mainly to uproot Alshabab fighters from the few places they are taking cover within the region.
