Somali Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre visited Jubbaland State to congratulate Somali National Army troops for their decisive victory over al-Shabab militants, resulting in the deaths of over 80 insurgents.The visit took place on Wednesday.
Jubbaland State, including strategic locations like Bula Haji and the Lower Jubba region.
The visit aimed to commend the troops for their success in combating terrorism, liberating strategic areas, and stabilizing the region. It also highlighted the government’s commitment to national security and regional stability.
Prime Minister Barre, along with Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe and army commanders, praised the forces, announced monetary rewards for the Birjeh brigade, and emphasized the importance of national unity and public support in the fight against terrorism.
Al-Shabab has long been a powerful threat to Somalia’s stability, frequently launching attacks on government and civilian targets. The Somali government, with support from regional and international partners, has been engaged in ongoing efforts to combat the group and secure the nation.
Two weeks ago, al-Shabab militants attacked army bases in the Lower Jubba region. Somali forces successfully repelled the attacks, neutralizing four car bombs. Videos shared by Jubbaland officials showed the bodies of militants in military attire, highlighting the scale of the confrontation.
During the visit, Prime Minister Barre praised the Somali National Army for their role in liberating strategic locations and announced monetary rewards for the Birjeh brigade, who were instrumental in the operation.
“You have made the Somali people proud by defeating those who seek to harm our nation,” Barre said.
The visit also reflects the Somali government’s broader efforts to secure the country and promote regional peace and stability.
Prime Minister Barre reiterated the importance of national unity and the Somali people’s support in the fight against Al-shabaab.
