Somali National Army (SNA) backed by the clan militia group Ma’awisley on Monday took over the strategic town of Adan Yabal in the Middle Shabelle region after intense fighting with Al-Shabaab fighters.
The fighting started four days ago in Wartadibi Samatar and Bos Aduur to Adan Yabal district.Â
Speaking to Dalsan TV, the district commissioner of the strategic town Mohamud Sheikh Hassan said the government recovered vehicles from Al-Shabaab fighters who fled the district.
´´No soldiers have been killed in the fighting but there are minor injuries. The fighting will continue until we weed out the Al-Shabaab group in the region,´´ Adan Yabal District Commissioner, Mohamud Sheikh Hassan told Dalsan.
Adan Yabaal which is about 245km north of Mogadishu was the main town in Middle Shabelle region controlled by Al-Shabaab since 2016.
Despite losing the control of many areas in the hand Somali forces back by Ma´áwisley clan militia in the past months, the group is capable of carrying attacks on military barracks, government and hotels.
Last month, the group attacked Villa Rose hotel in Somalia’s presidential palace, killing More than 10 people including civilians and government officials in the attack.
