Somali media has marked world press freedom day on Sunday in the capital Mogadishu.
Leading press right and journalists unions such as National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) and Somali Independent Media Houses Association have organized activity to mark the significant day.
The government reopened Radio Shabelle station which was closed down two times before and gave back its equipment on Saturday.
Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) Col. Mohamed Abdirahman chief has on Sunday threatened to closed down and detain journalists that do not comply with government media strategy on covering armed group Al Shabaab.
The chairman of Somali Independent Media Houses Association, Hassan Ali Gesey has stressed the need for the Somali government to lift restrictions on the media in the country.
“Somali media is part of the reconciliation process in the country, so restricting its development is limiting progress,†he said.
At least five journalists lost their lives in Somalia in 2015.
According to Committee to Project (CPJ) Somalia is one of the most dangerous environment for Journalists to operate after Syria and Iraq.
