President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday has laid down the foundation for the construction of a new Presidential Palace in Baidoa.
President Mohamud, accompanied by several Cabinet ministers and the leader of South West state Abdulaziz laftagaren also toured Baidoa general hospital to assess the hospital’s services to the public and needs on the ground.
The head of the state also inspected the newly built football stadium and important places for public services and visited the IDP camp, which hosts hundreds of families.
He emphasized that he will work to expand the educational services for the displaced people in this camp and the development of the knowledge centres he has implemented.
Mr Mohamud is in Baidoa for the reconciliation conference between the regional state leaders and the opposition politician.
The meeting comes weeks after an armed standoff between the two parties in Baidoa left more than ten people dead.
The gun battle broke out at the home of former federal finance minister Mohamed Adan Ibrahim Fargeti, where the opposition-loyal militia had gathered.
