Somalia and Kuwait strengthen cooperation in oil and mineral development

The Minister of Petroleum and Minerals of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Dahir Shire Mohamed, is currently on an official visit to the State of Kuwait, where he held a high-level meeting with his counterpart, the Kuwaiti Minister of Petroleum, Mr. Tareq Sulaiman Al-Ruumi, in Kuwait City.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Somalia and Kuwait in the exploration, development, and management of petroleum resources. Both ministers discussed avenues for enhancing Somalia’s energy sector through technical assistance, capacity building, and infrastructure development, as well as leveraging Kuwait’s extensive experience in oil production and resource management.

Minister Dahir highlighted Somalia’s commitment to creating a favorable environment for foreign investment in the oil and mineral sector, emphasizing the need for knowledge transfer, workforce development, and sustainable resource management. He also expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s willingness to support Somalia’s strategic objectives in the energy industry, including upgrading technical skills for Somali professionals and implementing efficient operational frameworks.

Minister Al-Ruumi assured that the State of Kuwait is committed to sharing its expertise and best practices to help Somalia develop its oil and mineral resources. He noted that enhanced collaboration between the two nations would contribute to economic growth, job creation, and long-term energy security in Somalia.

The meeting marks a significant step in Somalia’s efforts to attract foreign investment, strengthen its energy sector, and achieve sustainable development. Both sides agreed to continue regular consultations and implement concrete programs aimed at supporting Somalia’s capacity to manage and benefit from its natural resources effectively.

This visit is part of Somalia’s broader strategy to build international partnerships, enhance technical skills in key industries, and ensure the country’s natural resources contribute meaningfully to national economic growth and stability.
