NISA dismantles key Al-shabaab extortion and funding operatives

The Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has significantly intensified its campaign against the financing of terrorism, achieving notable successes in dismantling networks and senior operatives who formed the backbone of extortion and the illegal seizure of public assets carried out by Al-Shabaab.

In an official statement, NISA said recent operations have brought an end to the activities of key figures involved in collecting and managing funds used to finance terrorist operations. These individuals were directly responsible for intimidation, coercion, and the exploitation of Somali citizens. The agency noted that these actions are part of ongoing efforts to weaken the financial capabilities of terrorist groups and prevent them from carrying out attacks that threaten national security.

NISA emphasized that every ringleader who has profited from the blood and property of the Somali people remains a legitimate target, stressing that there is no safe haven from the reach of the national security forces, the rule of law, and accountability. The agency underscored that cutting off terrorist financing is a critical pillar in ensuring long-term security, stability, and development in Somalia.

The agency also called on Somali citizens to continue cooperating closely with security institutions by reporting any cases of terrorist extortion or potential security threats. Members of the public were urged to share information through NISA’s dedicated hotlines to support efforts aimed at safeguarding peace and public safety.

The Federal Government of Somalia reaffirmed its firm commitment to completely eradicating terrorism and dismantling the financial networks that sustain it, with NISA playing a leading role in advancing national security and working toward a stable and peaceful future for the Somali people.
