In Summary

Jubaland Military Court orders Ramadan Mohamed Hirsi to pay 100 camels in blood compensation for the killing of Dr. Aden Abdi Bashir.

The Jubaland Military and Major Crimes Court has today handed down a verdict in the case of Ramadan Mohamed Hirsi, a 28-year-old accused in the death of Dr. Aden Abdi Bashir, 55, who was killed in Afmadow on October 13, 2023, at approximately 2:00 PM.

After an extensive investigation and multiple judicial proceedings, the court ruled that Ramadan Mohamed Hirsi must pay 100 camels as “Diyo Muqallado” (blood compensation) to the family of the late Dr. Bashir. The decision was confirmed by the Deputy Chairman of the Jubaland Military and Major Crimes Court, Colonel Abdullahi Mahmoud Ibrahim (Faaqid).

The verdict follows a mutual agreement between the families of the victim and the accused to accept the compensation, allowing the court to formalize the settlement under Jubaland’s legal and customary frameworks.

This ruling underscores the continued use of traditional and Islamic-based compensation systems alongside formal judicial processes in Jubaland, offering a resolution mechanism for serious crimes while respecting local customs.

The court emphasized that such verdicts aim to provide justice for victims’ families, restore social harmony, and reinforce the rule of law within the region.
