Somalia’s permanent mission to the United Nations hosts diplomatic reception in New York
The delegation of the Federal Government of Somalia to the United Nations hosted a formal dinner reception for ambassadors and diplomats serving at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Speaking at the event, Somalia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations,Ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman (Baalle), expressed Somalia’s honor in once again assuming the presidency of the United Nations Security Council after 54 years. He described the milestone as a clear symbol of Somalia’s recovery, progress, and renewed engagement with the international community.
Ambassador Baalle noted that Somalia’s leadership of the Security Council is grounded in a strong commitment to upholding the rule of law and strengthening international cooperation, particularly at a time when global tensions are increasing and violations of international norms are becoming more frequent.
He further highlighted the resilience, ambition, creativity, and strong work ethic of the Somali people, emphasizing that Somalis consistently respond to challenges and adversity with unity, confidence, and renewed determination.
The reception marked the conclusion of Somalia’s one-month presidency of the UN Security Council and was attended by senior diplomats and representatives of UN member states. The event also featured performances by Somali artists, who presented traditional songs and dances showcasing Somalia’s rich cultural heritage. The performances were warmly received and greatly appreciated by the distinguished guests in attendance.
The event served as both a diplomatic engagement and a cultural celebration, reflecting Somalia’s growing role on the international stage and its commitment to fostering dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding among nations.
