Somali Parliament approves IGAD agreement during the 30th session of the House of the People
Members of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia held the 30th session of the 7th parliamentary sitting at the House headquarters, chaired by the Speaker of the House, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe).
During the session, lawmakers conducted the third reading of the Agreement Establishing the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). The report on the third reading was presented to the House by MP Aweys Hussein Macallin, Deputy Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Following the reading, the House voted on the agreement, which was approved by 141 members. Two MPs voted against it, while one abstained.
In a separate agenda item, the House conducted the first reading of the Penal Code Amendment Bill prepared by the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hassan Macallin Mahmoud, presented the report on the bill to the House.
Several MPs raised questions regarding the general principles of the proposed legislation, which were addressed by the Minister.
In closing the session, Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe) instructed the relevant parliamentary committee to prepare the second reading of the Penal Code Bill and return it to the House for further debate.
