Somalia and Sudan Discuss Regional Security and Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdisalam Abdi Ali Dhaay, held a special meeting in Mogadishu with the Ambassador of Sudan to Somalia, Abdirahman Khalil Ahmed Abubakar, to discuss bilateral relations and regional security issues.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries, particularly on matters related to security in the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Indian Ocean—key maritime routes vital to regional and international trade.

Sudan’s Ambassador, Abdirahman Khalil, reaffirmed his country’s firm opposition to any actions that undermine Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity. His remarks come amid Sudan’s clear rejection of Israel’s claim that it had recognized Somaliland.

For his part, Minister Abdisalam emphasized the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to respecting the unity and sovereignty of Sudan, as the country continues to recover from years of internal conflict. He highlighted the importance Somalia places on solidarity and mutual respect among regional partners.

The Somali foreign minister also thanked the Sudanese ambassador for his recent visit to Lasanod, noting that the visit reflected the growing strength of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Somalia and Sudan share long-standing diplomatic relations rooted in cooperation across trade, education, and security sectors. Both sides expressed readiness to further enhance collaboration in addressing shared challenges and promoting stability in the region.
