Somali National Army Kills Five Militants in Planned Operation in Gedo Region

The Somali National Army (SNA) has carried out a carefully planned security operation in the Ceel-Cilaan area, located approximately 30 kilometers east of Bardheere district in the Gedo region, military officials said.

According to the army, the operation was conducted following intelligence assessments and was executed successfully, resulting in the killing of five militants who had been responsible for ongoing attacks and intimidation against civilians living in the area. The military said the operation aimed to restore security and protect local communities from persistent threats.

During the operation, SNA forces destroyed several militant hideouts and operational bases used to coordinate acts of insecurity, including planning attacks and harassing residents. Officials said the destruction of these positions has significantly disrupted the group’s ability to operate in the area.

Military commanders described the operation as part of a broader campaign to dismantle armed groups and prevent them from regrouping in rural areas of southern Somalia. They added that no civilian casualties were reported during the mission.

The Somali National Army reiterated its commitment to defending the population and eliminating armed groups that threaten peace and stability. The military also urged local residents to continue cooperating with security forces by sharing information that could help prevent future attacks.

The operation in Ceel-Cilaan comes amid intensified security efforts across several regions, particularly in areas where militants have attempted to exploit remote terrain to stage attacks against civilians and government forces.

Authorities say similar operations will continue as part of the government’s strategy to improve security, stabilize liberated areas, and ensure the safety of communities in the Gedo region and beyond.
