Somalia Welcomes Yemen President’s Call for National Dialogue, Reaffirms Support for Unity and Stability
The Federal Republic of Somalia has welcomed the call by Yemeni President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi to convene a national dialogue conference to address the Southern Yemen issue, describing the initiative as a sincere step toward prioritizing dialogue as a means to preserve Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and long-term stability.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Somali government expressed strong support for the dialogue initiative, emphasizing that inclusive political engagement remains the most effective path to resolving complex national challenges and preventing further instability.
Somalia also praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its key role in supporting Yemen’s national reconciliation efforts, particularly its agreement to host a broad-based dialogue conference in Riyadh at the request of Yemen’s legitimate leadership. According to the statement, Saudi Arabia’s facilitation of the talks provides a constructive political environment that enables all parties to freely express their views and contribute to shaping a peaceful future for the country.
The Somali government further commended regional and international efforts aimed at assisting the Yemeni people as they continue to face severe political, economic, and humanitarian challenges. It stressed that meaningful participation by all stakeholders—guided by national responsibility and a commitment to the public interest—is essential for achieving lasting solutions.
“Somalia once again reaffirms its support for all sincere initiatives aimed at achieving lasting peace through dialogue and mutual understanding,” the statement said, stressing that dialogue and consensus are essential to safeguarding Yemen’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence
The statement concluded by underscoring Somalia’s solidarity with the Yemeni people and its continued support for any genuine initiative that reflects the will of the Yemeni population, promotes national cohesion, and contributes to sustainable peace and stability in the region.
Somalia’s position aligns with broader regional calls for political solutions to the Yemen crisis, as diplomatic efforts intensify to end years of conflict and lay the groundwork for reconciliation and reconstruction.
