SNA Conducts Planned Night Raid in Jilib, Killing 15 Militants
The Ministry of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia has released details of a major overnight military operation carried out by the Somali National Army (SNA) in Jilib district of Middle Jubba region.
According to an official press statement, elite Danab Commandos conducted a carefully planned special operation late last night, targeting members of the militant group operating in the area. The operation was based on prior intelligence and focused on locations believed to be used by the group for movement and coordination.
The Ministry confirmed that at least 15 militants were killed during the operation, while 8 others were captured alive. Security forces also seized weapons and equipment used by the group. The detainees are currently in custody and will be handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation.
Officials said the operation was conducted during nighttime hours, demonstrating the growing operational capacity of the Somali National Army, particularly its ability to carry out complex missions under challenging conditions. The use of air-supported maneuvering played a key role in the success of the operation, allowing forces to reach targeted locations swiftly and limit escape routes.
“The successful execution of this operation reflects the improved coordination, training, and combat readiness of our forces,” the statement said. “The Somali National Army is now capable of striking hostile elements at any time and in any location where they attempt to hide.”
Jilib district has long been considered a strategic area due to its geographic position and has previously been identified as a key stronghold for militant elements. The Ministry noted that operations in the region will continue as part of a broader campaign aimed at dismantling remaining networks and restoring full government authority.
The Defense Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilians and minimizing harm to non-combatants during military operations, emphasizing that all actions are conducted in accordance with national and international laws.
This latest operation comes amid intensified security efforts across several regions of Somalia, as the government continues its campaign to stabilize liberated areas and prevent militant groups from regrouping.
The Ministry concluded by praising the bravery and professionalism of the Somali National Army, particularly the Danab Commandos, and reiterated that security operations will persist until lasting peace and stability are achieved throughout the country.
