President Hassan Sheikh condemns Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, reaffirming Somalia’s unity and sovereignty.

President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, on Sunday delivered a strongly worded address to the bicameral Federal Parliament, condemning what he described as a grave violation committed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against the Somali state and its people.

Speaking before members of both the House of the People and the Upper House, President Hassan Sheikh accused the Israeli leadership of deliberately breaching international law and undermining Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity through unilateral actions related to Somaliland.

The President stressed that both the Somali government and its people are prepared to defend their national identity and territorial unity at all costs, warning that the current situation requires collective national resolve to counter threats to Somalia’s existence, regional stability, and peace.

“Netanyahu’s action is completely unacceptable and constitutes a clear aggression against the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia,” President Hassan Sheikh said. “The Northern Regions of the Republic, commonly referred to as Somaliland, remain an inseparable part of Somalia. Our position will not change, and we strongly warn against any attempts to divide our country.”

The President emphasized that Somalia’s stance on its territorial integrity is firm and irreversible, describing any recognition of Somaliland as null and void under international law. He underscored that such actions pose a serious threat to regional peace and could set a dangerous precedent beyond the Horn of Africa.

President Hassan Sheikh also welcomed the strong support Somalia has received at regional, Arab, African, and international levels, praising the solidarity expressed by neighboring countries, the Arab League, the African Union, and global partners in defense of Somalia’s unity.

Reaffirming Somalia’s long-standing principled position, the President reiterated the government’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people, condemning ongoing violations against civilians and rejecting any form of forced displacement.

“Somalia will not allow its territory to be used as a platform for wars or destabilization,” he said. “We stand ready to play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability in the region and globally. We also categorically oppose the forced displacement of the Palestinian people.”

In his closing remarks, President Hassan Sheikh called on friendly nations, brotherly countries, and international organizations to continue standing with the Somali government and people, particularly in diplomatic and legal efforts aimed at safeguarding Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and national existence.

The address comes amid heightened diplomatic tensions following Israel’s recent announcement recognizing Somaliland, a move that has sparked widespread condemnation from Mogadishu and intensified regional and international debate over its legal and political implications.
