Somalia condemns Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, calls it a violation of sovereignty.

The Federal Government of Somalia has strongly condemned Israel’s decision to recognize the northern region of Somaliland, calling the move a blatant violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In an extraordinary cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, the government described the recognition as illegal and warned it could undermine regional stability, embolden extremist groups, and threaten security across the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and the Horn of Africa.

“Somalia remains steadfast in its position that its territory cannot be divided under any circumstances,” the government said in a statement, urging Israel to immediately reverse its decision. The statement emphasized that the action contradicts international law, the UN Charter, and the Constitutive Act of the African Union.

The Somali government also reaffirmed its long-standing support for the rights of the Palestinian people and condemned any attempts to establish military bases, force relocations, or carry out other unauthorized activities on Somali soil.

Somalia called on citizens to remain united in defense of the country’s independence and territorial integrity and urged the international community—including the UN, AU, Arab League, OIC, IGAD, and East African regional bodies, to uphold Somalia’s sovereignty and ensure that any unilateral recognition efforts are blocked.

The cabinet reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to diplomatic and legal measures to protect its borders and maintain peace and stability in the region.
