Somalia and Egypt deepen ties in Cairo, focusing on security, investment, and regional stability.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Abdulsalaan Abdi Ali, held a consultative meeting in Cairo on Saturday with his counterpart from the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptian Expatriates.
The meeting took place during the 2nd Ministerial Forum of the Russia-Africa Dialogue, held in Cairo on 19–20 December 2025. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in economic development, investment, and security. Both sides emphasized the importance of effective collaboration in promoting stability and sustainable progress.
Minister Abdulsalaan welcomed Egypt’s continued support for Somalia, highlighting the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Egypt, particularly in diplomacy, security, and institutional capacity building. He also underscored the importance of coordinated regional efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability.
Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty praised the positive developments in Egypt-Somalia relations and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation between the two nations. He noted that the reopening of the Egyptian Embassy in Mogadishu would facilitate closer diplomatic collaboration and better coordination between the governments.
The meeting also addressed regional security issues, with Egypt reiterating its support for Somalia’s stability and the broader Horn of Africa. Egypt emphasized the need for sustained international investment to support the African Union Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) to ensure its effectiveness and success.
Both ministers jointly stressed the importance of reinforcing cooperation in combating terrorism and violent extremism, calling for strengthened regional and international collaboration to address threats to peace and security in the region.
