Somalia’s environment minister visits Galmudug towns to assess climate change impact
The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia, Bashir Mohamed Jama, conducted an official visit to the towns of Hobyo, Hinbarwaaqo, and Elhuur in Galmudug State to evaluate the environmental conditions and the effects of climate change in the region.
Minister Bashir was warmly welcomed by local communities and authorities, and he was accompanied by Galmudug State Minister of Environment, Said Siyad, during the tour.
While visiting Haybo town, the Minister observed neighborhoods severely affected by climate-related changes, particularly sandstorms and desertification that have engulfed many homes. He received detailed briefings from residents and local officials on the current impacts and urgent needs.
Minister Bashir emphasized the serious effects of climate change on Galmudug’s communities and underlined the Federal Government’s commitment to accelerate environmental protection efforts, implement climate adaptation measures, and launch programs to address the challenges facing the affected areas.
