Voter registration intensifies across Mogadishu ahead of December 25 elections.
Voter registration for the Benadir regional local council elections, scheduled for December 25, is progressing rapidly across districts in Mogadishu, as residents continue to collect their voter cards.
Federal Government officials visiting various districts have urged citizens to register and obtain their voter cards in order to freely vote for candidates of their choice.
Senator Haji Muse Sudi, who collected his voter card in Karaan District, encouraged residents to prepare for a one-person, one-vote election, stressing that Somalia has entered a new democratic phase.
“The country is moving toward direct elections, and there is no turning back to indirect voting,” Senator Muse Sudi said.
Speaking to residents of Karaan District, Minister of Interior Ali Hosh emphasized that political appointments are over, noting that power has been returned to the people.
“The government has restored authority to the citizens. Support the political organization of your choice with your vote,” he said.
Meanwhile, former Hirshabelle State President Ali Abdullahi Cosoble also obtained his voter card in Heliwa District, joining thousands of Mogadishu residents preparing to take part in the historic vote.
Somalia is set to mark a milestone in its democratic journey, as the people of the capital head to the polls on December 25 to elect their local councils in Benadir.
