AUSSOM force commanders meet in Mogadishu to review security progress and operational challenges.
Senior commanders of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) convened in Mogadishu to review the security situation, assess progress, and address ongoing challenges, with AU Special Representative Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene calling for practical decisions to deliver lasting peace and stability for Somalia.
Senior commanders of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) today held a high-level meeting in Mogadishu, bringing together force commanders and sector leaders to conduct a comprehensive review of the overall security situation, assess progress made, and discuss persistent challenges—particularly financial constraints affecting operations.
The meeting gathered the leadership of AUSSOM’s five sectors, focusing on ways to accelerate the implementation of the mission’s mandate in line with the AUSSOM Operational Plan, at a time when funding shortfalls continue to place pressure on security activities.
Opening the meeting, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia and Head of AUSSOM, Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, commended military commanders and their troops for their dedication, courage, and unwavering commitment to supporting state-building efforts, peace, and stability led by the Federal Government of Somalia.
Ambassador Diene outlined AUSSOM’s overall strategic approach, which includes preventing security threats before they materialize, conducting joint operations with Somali security forces, strengthening political–security coordination, and enhancing cooperation and communication among key stakeholders.
He further praised the commanders and their forces for the critical role they continue to play in maintaining peace and stability across Somalia, encouraging participants to use the meeting as an open platform to generate practical and actionable recommendations that will strengthen the effective delivery of AUSSOM’s mandate.
In closing, the AU Special Representative called for the meeting to produce concrete decisions and forward-looking recommendations capable of delivering tangible results that meet the expectations of the Somali people and advance the shared goal of lasting peace and comprehensive stability in the country.
