Galmudug court sentences two to death for killing mother and three daughters
The Galgaduud regional Appeals Court in Galmudug delivered its ruling on Sunday, sentencing Abdi Osmaan Abdullaahi and Galad Ahmed Hussein to death by firing squad. The court overturned an earlier prison term issued by the lower court, stating that the gravity of the crime required a harsher penalty.
The Galgaduud regional Appeals Court in Somalias Galmudug State on Sunday sentenced two men to death for the murder of a woman and her three daughters in a vicious clan related attack that took place in early October.
The court overruled a previous ruling of the lower court, which had, issued a term of imprisonment to the accused. In its latest ruling, the Appeals Court found Abdi Osman Abdullaahi and Galad Ahmed Hussein guilty and ruled that both men be executed by firing squad for participating in the murders.
According to court proceedings, the two men also shot and killed Sahro Xersi Cartan and her three daughters Nuura Axmed Maxamuud, Haawo Ahmed Mohamuud and Faasa Ahmed Mohamuud on the same night at their home in Hiindheere village near Qaayid and not far from the town of Adaado in Galgaduud on October 9 2025.
Further investigations identified that the killings were carried out as part of a clan revenge attack after the perpetrators reportedly failed to locate Sahros husband who was away during the incident. A third suspect, Ayuub Mohamed Abdi, was sentenced to five years imprisonment for his role in the case. The court also ordered the Galmudug authorities to seize two AK47 rifles that were allegedly used in the killings.
The clan based killings is still a major problem in central Somalia where several inter clan conflicts and retaliatory attacks have been taking place. The region has in recent months experienced renewed tensions and occasional violence associated with clan factors and causes of revenge.
