Jubbaland and Somali National Army Conduct Major Joint Operation Against Al-Shabaab in Jamaame District
Jubbaland forces, backed by the Somali National Army and international partners, conducted a major offensive in Jamaame District, hitting Al-Shabaab bases in multiple villages. The operation resulted in the destruction of enemy hideouts, the killing of key militant leaders, and the capture of IED specialists, along with the disabling of several landmines prepared for attacks on civilians.
Security forces from the Jubbaland Administration, supported by units of the Somali National Army (SNA), including the 43rd Division and the elite Danab Commandos of Battalion 162, have carried out a large-scale, carefully coordinated operation across several villages under Jamaame District in Lower Juba. The offensive marks one of the most extensive joint counterterrorism missions conducted in the region in recent months.
The operation targeted key Al-Shabaab strongholds in the villages of Muuse Xaaji, Araare, Koban, Bangeeni, Maleyleey, Baladu-rahma, and the Maam-bile area. These locations were identified as strategic hubs used by the militant group to plan and launch attacks against civilians and government positions. According to security officials, Al-Shabaab operatives in these areas relied on the hideouts for logistical support, recruitment, and the assembly of explosives.
During the course of the mission, the joint forces, operating with support from international partners—conducted precision airstrikes on several enemy positions. The strikes reportedly destroyed all targeted Al-Shabaab bases, significantly weakening the group’s operational capability in the district. Ground forces later moved in to secure the cleared areas and assess damage inflicted on militant infrastructure.
Military officials confirmed that several high-ranking Al-Shabaab commanders were killed in the offensive, while others sustained injuries. Additionally, a number of militants were captured alive, including individuals responsible for manufacturing and planting improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The forces also successfully neutralized multiple landmines that had been prepared for deployment against civilians and security personnel.
The joint operation is seen as a major step forward in the continuing efforts to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s network in Lower Juba. Officials praised the coordination exhibited by Jubbaland forces, the Somali National Army, and international partners, emphasizing that such collaboration is crucial to maintaining pressure on the militant group and ensuring the safety of local communities.
Military sources further noted that operations will continue across the region to prevent the reestablishment of Al-Shabaab footholds. The successful mission has been widely welcomed by residents, who have long endured threats and disruptions posed by the presence of extremist militants.
