President Uhuru Kenyatta has spoken with his Somali counterpart on khat ban and possibility of lifting the ban, Kenyan government spokesman has confirmed.
Erick Kiraithe said President Kenyatta has requested President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to lift ban on the khat.
“The President has talked to his counterpart about how the ban has damaged Kenyan farmers bussiness,†he said.
Erick Kiraithe denied Meru governor’s actions were responsible for the decision taken by Somali government to stop khat planes.
Speaking to Journalists in Nairobi during press conference he said Meru Governor Peter Munya cannot afford to damage the diplomatic relations between the two neighboring states.
Somali ambassador to Kenya Jamal Mohamed has accused Meru governor for being responsible for the response by his government after trying to interfere into the territorial integrity of Somalia.
