The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources of Jubaland, Ahmed Hassan Omar, and his delegation, who have been on a working visit to Lamu County, Kenya, held an important meeting with the local authorities of Lamu.
The meeting, which was chaired by the Minister of Trade of Lamu County, was attended by the Director-General of the Ministry, Mr. Mahmoud Abdi Ahmed, businesspeople from Jubaland, and representatives from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Also present was a representative from the Lamu Chamber of Commerce.
The discussions focused on facilitating cross-border trade, fostering joint investment between the two sides, and strengthening border security.
The officials agreed to legalize trade by sharing licenses and registration documents to align the fisheries sector with international standards and national laws.
They also emphasized efforts to combat illegal fishing and the importance of opening the border to ease trade between both sides.
