The Director General of the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Abdulkadir Ilmi Ali, held a meeting with the Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Somalia, Mr. Manuel Marques Pereira, at the organization’s office.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Somali government and IOM in key priority areas, including stabilization, population settlement, civil registration, and the management and development of local governments. Both sides emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to improve governance structures and service delivery at the local level, particularly in areas recovering from conflict and displacement.
Discussions also covered broader collaboration to support Somalia’s recovery and long-term development, including infrastructure rehabilitation and initiatives aimed at building resilient and effective government institutions. The Director General highlighted the government’s commitment to working closely with international partners to advance sustainable solutions that benefit communities across the country.
Mr. Abdulkadir Ilmi Ali expressed appreciation for IOM’s continued support to Somalia, especially in areas related to migration management, stabilization and community recovery. He noted that such partnerships play a crucial role in reinforcing national priorities and promoting lasting peace and development.
For his part, Mr. Manuel Marques Pereira reaffirmed IOM’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government of Somalia’s efforts in governance, stabilization and durable solutions. He underscored IOM’s readiness to deepen cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and other Somali institutions to address shared challenges and advance recovery and development initiatives nationwide.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to enhance coordination and translate their discussions into concrete actions that support stability, inclusive governance and sustainable development across Somalia.
