Jubbaland Ministry of Interior Holds Community Security Consultations in Kismayo to Strengthen Public Safety
Jubbaland’s Ministry of Interior opened a two-day community security workshop in Kismayo, bringing together local leaders, civil society, and UNDP officials. The consultations aim to strengthen public safety, incorporate citizen feedback into security planning, and promote long-term peace and stability in the region.
The Director General of the Ministry of Interior of Jubbaland, Khareed Kilas Abdi, officially opened the Community Consultations and Security Snapshot Workshop in Kismayo today. The two-day workshop, organized by the Ministry of Interior with technical support from the UNDP, aims to present data on community security, gather public feedback, and formulate actionable recommendations to enhance safety across Jubbaland.
The workshop brought together local leaders, civil society representatives, security officials, and UNDP personnel. Participants examined recent community security data, identified emerging challenges, and discussed strategies to improve safety and promote citizen participation in security decision-making.
During his opening remarks, Director General Khareed Kilas Abdi emphasized that sustainable security cannot be achieved without active community engagement. He highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to building trust between citizens and security institutions and underscored the importance of public consultations in shaping policies that reflect local needs and priorities.
“The input of communities is crucial for the development of responsive and effective security strategies,” said Mr. Khareed. “Through these consultations, we are not only collecting valuable data but also empowering our citizens to play an active role in protecting their communities.”
UNDP representatives praised Jubbaland’s proactive approach to integrating community feedback into security planning. They noted that the partnership between government authorities and international agencies ensures that security initiatives are both practical and sustainable.
The workshop is part of a broader strategy by the Ministry of Interior to institutionalize regular community consultations, improve oversight mechanisms, and promote collaboration between government, local communities, and development partners. Officials expressed optimism that these efforts will lead to more transparent, accountable, and results-oriented security governance in Jubbaland, fostering long-term peace and stability in the region.
