President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Visits Industrial and Cultural Centers in Algeria
The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument in Algeria, honoring the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence and defense. The President’s gesture symbolized the shared history and solidarity between Somalia and Algeria, both of which played vital roles in Africa’s struggle for freedom and liberation.
On the second day of his official visit to Algeria, President Hassan Sheikh visited the Grand Mosque of Algiers (Djamaa el Djazaïr), one of the largest mosques in the world. During his visit, he met with prominent Algerian scholars who presented him with a commemorative gift to mark the occasion. The scholars expressed their admiration for the resilience of the Somali people and strongly condemned extremist ideologies that exploit religion to justify violence against innocent civilians in Somalia.
Continuing his visit, President Hassan Sheikh toured the Algerian Pharmaceutical Factory, where he received a detailed briefing from the management on the plant’s production capacity, medical research, and contributions to public health. He also visited the Algerian Center for Artificial Intelligence, where he was briefed on the country’s advancements in digital technology, innovation, and the use of artificial intelligence in national development.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s visit reflects Somalia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Algeria in key sectors such as education, health, technology, and countering violent extremism. Both nations reaffirmed their mutual desire to enhance cooperation and share experiences that contribute to peace, progress, and sustainable development across the African continent.
