Somali Forces Kill Key Al-Shabaab Commanders in Coordinated Raids in Bakool and Bay Regions
The Somali National Armed Forces conducted targeted operations against Al-Shabaab leaders and militants in Bakool and Bay regions, successfully neutralizing high-value targets, the Ministry of Defense announced.
According to an official press release from the Ministry, the operation in **Abal village, approximately 21 kilometers from Hudur district in Bakool, resulted in the death of senior Al-Shabaab commander Mohamed Abdi Mohamed Nur, also known as “Goofoow.”
The Ministry described the deceased as the Amir of Al-Shabaab’s Abal village cell and the mastermind behind multiple terrorist attacks that had terrorized civilians in Bakool. “During the operation, our forces seized weapons and documents detailing planned attacks and other security threats,” the statement read.
Simultaneously, in Bay region, Somali forces carried out an operation in Waro Mintaaniya village, located about 14 kilometers southeast of Burjeed.
The raid targeted Al-Shabaab operatives responsible for organizing terrorist attacks in the area. Two militants, identified as **Yaxye (Abuu Khaalid) and Shariif (Amir), were killed during the operation.
The Ministry of Defense praised the National Army for their effectiveness in executing these coordinated strikes, which eliminated key leaders and disrupted Al-Shabaab’s operational capabilities in both regions.
The press release emphasized the Somali government’s continued commitment to defeating terrorism, enhancing security, and protecting civilians from extremist threats.
These successful operations highlight ongoing efforts by the Somali security forces to target Al-Shabaab’s leadership and weaken its influence across southern Somalia, contributing to broader regional stability and the safety of local communities.
